Senior Associate, Design Practice Leader
“Since 2016 I have served as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals
and subsequently the Planning Board in Watertown, MA, where I have
lived since 2001. Our city has been growing at a bewildering pace over
the past couple of decades, and it gives me a tremendous sense of
pride and excitement to be able to play a role, however modest, in the
shaping of its physical environment.”
“Serving on a board such as this gives me an insight into what is really
important to various members of the community, some of whom are
in alignment and others who are fundamentally at odds about what
is best for Watertown – for me it comes down to having empathy for
various points of view, and balancing what I personally think are the best
choices for steering the development in a responsible direction, versus
the desires of other community members who have their own di昀昀ering
motivations and perceptions of how they want their built environment
to look and feel. I also 昀椀nd the meetings and ongoing dialogue between
developers, municipal regulators, and members of the community to be
fascinating from a psychological perspective.”
