2025 Fundraising Spotlight
Two of our Boston Marathoners:
The Causes They Ran to Support
"Growing up around Boston, the Marathon always
seemed like an unattainable goal. After years of
struggling with asthma and focusing on team
sports like soccer and lacrosse, I rediscovered
running during the pandemic and fell in love with
it. With the support of Beth Israel Lahey Health,
I’ve learned to manage my asthma and eventually
completed my 昀椀rst half-marathon. Running this past year's
Boston Marathon is my way of giving back to honor the people
and healthcare heroes who’ve shaped and supported me every
step of the way."
- Marissa Nelson
"At the end of 2024 I adopted an accepting
mentality where I would start saying yes more,
even if the thing I said yes was something I had
never done before. Being o昀昀ered the opportunity
to run the Boston Marathon under the Krystle
Campbell Fund allowed me to do exactly that and
give back to UMass Boston students - which is crazy
because the farthest I ever ran before that was 11 miles.
I had no prior fundraising experience either, but I pushed myself
to plan and organize events! Who would have thought that saying
yes would lead to one of the greatest changes in my life."
